Our Over 50s Life Insurance Plan provides your loved ones with a fixed, tax-free cash lump sum when you die, providing help with the cost of your funeral and any other expenses that may be incurred.

You can take out a plan as long as you are aged between 50 and 80, and you will be accepted with no medical questions to answer, regardless of your health.

When the time comes for your family to make a claim, we will pay the money directly to the estate, or, if you choose our funeral benefits option, the money will be paid directly to Golden Charter Funeral Services, who will add an extra £300 to the value of the fund and handle your funeral arrangements.

Features of our Over 50s Life Insurance

Guaranteed acceptance icon

Guaranteed acceptance, no questions asked

If you’re aged between 50 and 80 at the time of application and you live in the UK permanently your cover will be approved, and we won’t need to ask you any questions about your health or personal circumstances.

Guaranteed lump sum icon

A guaranteed cash lump sum that we'll never reduce

When you take out the plan you’ll be quoted a tax-free amount that your family will receive when they make a claim. We guarantee this amount will never be reduced, just as long as you continue to pay your monthly premiums as required.

Cover from £10 icon

Cover from as little as £10 per month

You can become insured from just £10 per month, and you can choose a monthly premium that suits you up to £50. The higher the monthly premium you choose, the higher your level of cover will be.

Fixed premiums icon

Fixed premiums for life

The premiums you pay each month will be fixed from the start of the plan, and will not be increased throughout the term of the plan. When you reach age 90 you will stop paying your premiums but you will remain fully covered.

Fixed premiums icon

Flexibility to reduce your premiums

If you wish you can choose to reduce your monthly premiums at any time, as long as this remains within the minimum of £10 per month, and we would then reduce the amount of life cover to reflect this change.

You can also decide to open more than one Over 50s Life Insurance Plan with us, just as long as the total amount of monthly premiums you pay does not exceed the maximum of £50 per month.

Funeral benefit icon

Funeral benefit option

We work with Golden Charter Funeral Services, the largest independent funeral service provider in the UK, who will contribute an extra £300 on top of your cover when you choose to nominate them to take care of your funeral. You can opt in to the funeral benefit option at the time of your application. Unfortunately, Golden Charter funeral benefit option is not available for Isle of Man residents.

Access to bereavement services

Your Over 50s Life Insurance plan gives you access to the National Bereavement Service, a not for profit organisation that offers practical guidance to families going through a bereavement. We understand that when you lose someone who is close to you that it can be both traumatic and upsetting. Few of us realise how much practical work has to take place and at an already difficult time.

Their team of advisors will guide you through the practical side of bereavement and provide you with a clear understanding of what those steps are from arranging a funeral to dealing with the legal and financial issues that need to take place. If you would like more information about this additional benefit please call the National Bereavement Service on 0800 024 6281.

  • If your circumstances change and you stop paying the premiums, your life cover will end immediately.
  • Over 50s Life Insurance has no cash in value at any time, so if you cancel it after the first 30 days you will get nothing back.
  • Your life cover does not start until after the second anniversary of your plan start date, as shown in your plan illustration, unless you die as a result of an accident, in which case your life cover begins from the start date shown on your plan illustration.
  • This life plan is not a funeral plan and therefore may not cover the full cost of a funeral.
  • Over time, although the amount we pay out on death is fixed, this amount is likely to reduce in value because of the effects of inflation.
  • If you live long enough the total premiums you have paid may be greater than the amount payable on death.

All references to taxation are to UK taxation and are based on Shepherds Friendly Society's understanding of current legislation and H M Revenue and Customs practice which may change in the future.
